It is stressed that the following prices are a guide only, and in UK pounds. I can take no personal responsibility for their accuracy, although every effort has been made to ensure that they have been copied correctly.

Coins of lower condition than BU have not been listed. Prices of coins dated 2009 are as available from the Royal Mint, but St.George reverse 2 and 5 pound coins are usually only available as part of sets.
Please note that the values of modern gold coins are very dependent on gold bullion prices, and since the figures below were published, values have risen significantly higher. They merely give a guide to the differential between various dates and quality (proof or otherwise). More recent bullion values may be available on my Bullion Value page.

The price of gold changes all the time, and has increased by 16% since Coin News published these values..
On 3rd February 2025 the bullion value of a five pound gold coin was £2679.

Values for gold versions of the five pound coins normally issued in cupronickel can be found on the Decimal Crowns page.
Values for other coins in gold or silver in the same design as coins issued for currency are to be found on the relevant pages for the issued coins.
There are four denominations of Britannia Gold bullion coins: 100 pounds, 50 pounds, 25 pounds, and 10 pounds.
Bullion coins are worth bullion value only, while proof versions are marginally more. More information on proof sets is given on the Royal Mint Sets page.
The bullion weights are 1 Troy oz, 0.5 Troy oz, 0.25 Troy oz and 0.1 Troy oz respectively. On 23rd January 2009 gold was at $879 or 643 UKP per Troy oz.
